A feat in times of pandemic that puts the film&nbsp;at the top of the French box office, ahead of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.numero.com\/cinema\/film-ridley-scott-dernier-duel-adam-driver-jodie-comer-matt-damon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ridley Scott&#8217;s<\/a><i> The Last Duel<\/i>&nbsp;, <i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.numero.com\/cinema\/julie-en-12-chapitres-joaquim-trier-renate-reinsve-festival-de-cannes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Julie (in 12 chapters)<\/a> <\/i>and all the other feature films that were highly anticipated this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The problem of representation in cinema<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The problem is that even if we particularly like<strong> Romain Duris <\/strong>and <strong>Emma Mackey<\/strong>, the rock heroine of<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.numero.com\/en\/node\/19138\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>Sex Education<\/i><\/a><\/strong>, the idea of seeing them together on screen\u00a0to live a crazy affair doesn&#8217;t really make us happy. In this fictionalized story of Gustave Eiffel, the French engineer from the \u00c9cole Centrale embarks on a pharaonic project for the 1889 Universal Exhibition to be held in Paris. He wanted to build a tower &#8220;<em>more than a thousand feet high<\/em>&#8221; in the shape of an A (for love), a phallic and dominant symbol if ever there was one, to impress the woman who had fascinated him in his\u00a0youth and whom he finally found again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was 1887 and Eiffel, who was 55 years old at the time, was played by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.numero.com\/cinema\/vincent-cassel-sandrine-kiberlain-romain-duris-thriller-psychologique-erick-zonca-disparition-traque-tension-bande-annonce-18-juillet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Romain Duris<\/a><\/strong>, who was 47. The object of his affection\u00a0is, for his part, played by <strong>Emma Mackey <\/strong>who is only 25 years old. We then wonder, if it is\u00a0her childhood sweetheart, if she was already born when they first met. In real life, the genius inventor with an ego as oversized as his creation\u00a0and the one who attracted him,\u00a0 Adrienne Bourg\u00e8s, were twelve years apart. And not more than twenty, as in this fictionalized version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"MOURIR PEUT ATTENDRE Bande Annonce VF (NOUVELLE, 2020) James Bond\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" data-cookieconsent=\"statistics, marketing\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Q0EiAfDmqx0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><div class=\"cookieconsent-optout-statistics cookieconsent-optout-marketing\"><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This casting choice is all the more annoying because it has become systematic, even after <strong>#MeToo<\/strong> and the complaints of actresses over 40 years old about their lack of opportunities.<b> <\/b>We continue to give roles as companions of men of 50 or 60 years old to actresses of 20 or 30 years old, as if after menopause, women were no longer of interest to anyone. If we look at recent film releases, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.numero.com\/cinema\/trois-choses-savoir-prochain-james-bond-mourir-peut-attendre-daniel-craig-lea-seydoux-christoph-waltz-rami-malek-dr-no-dr-blofeld-007-cary-joji-fukunaga\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James Bond<\/a><\/strong> (Daniel Craig, 53 years old) falls for <strong>L\u00e9a Seydoux<\/strong> (36 years old) in the latest adventures of Agent 007. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The same <a href=\"https:\/\/www.numero.com\/cinema\/lea-seydoux-festival-de-cannes-france-tromperie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">L\u00e9a Seydoux<\/a> will be on the bill, on December 29, in an adaptation of Philip Roth by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.numero.com\/cin%C3%A9ma\/arnaud-desplechin-restrospective-roubaix-une-lumi%C3%A8re-fran%C3%A7ais-mathieu-amalric-emmanuelle-devos-cesar-numero-magazine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arnaud Desplechin<\/a>, <em>Deception<\/em>. And, what luck, the actress will have a relationship with Denis Podalyd\u00e8s, a dashing 58-year-old man. Want more? In 2023, we will soon be able to enjoy a new film by Ridley Scott, <em>Kitbag<\/em>, in which Jodie Comer (<em>Killing Eve<\/em>) will play Jos\u00e9phine de Beauharnais, Napoleon&#8217;s companion (played by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.numero.com\/cinema\/joaquin-phoenix-c-mon-c-mon-mike-mills\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joaquin Phoenix<\/a><\/strong>). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Historically, the Empress was 6 years older than her illustrious husband while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.numero.com\/mode\/jonathan-anderson-loewe-judie-comer-steven-meisel-killing-eve-film-mm-fashionweek-printemps-ete-2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jodie Comer<\/a>\u00a0is almost 20 years younger than the hero of The <em>Joker<\/em> (2019).
