Premiered during London Fashion Week a few days ago, Björk’s new video for “The Gate” is a dreamlike excursion into the heart of a galaxy that combines geometric forms and fantastical imaginings, and marks the Icelandic artist’s return to the scene with a bang.
In the video directed by Andrew Thomas Huang, we see a most majestic gown by Gucci’s creative director, Alessandro Michele, that took more than 900 hours of work and is in perfect harmony with the retro-futurist world of the singer.
From experimental pop and trip-hop to a clash between hip-hop and electronica, Björk has always been a tricky one to classify. While her last album Vulnicura, released in 2015 was crafted after her break-up from film maker and sculptor Matthew Barney, this, her ninth studio album, entitled Utopia, is not so dark.
