Who’s the famous guest actor on The Weeknd’s new album?

After many collaborations – among which Rosalía and FKA Twigs – and mesmeric music videos, The Weeknd has just announced that his new album Dawn FM will be released this Friday. And it holds many surprises…

2021 was a rich year made of prestigious collaborations (Post Malone, Rosalía, FKA Twigs, Aaliyah) and powerful music videos (Echoes of Silence, Take My Breath and Die For You) for The Weeknd, who has just announced the release of his new album on Friday. Intitled Dawn FM, the album first surprises us with its cover, revealed on Instagram today. He who had already covered his face with make-up, bandages, and Botox injections to mimic bruises, now appears older as a seventy- year-old man. Perhaps a reflection on a showbusiness industry that refuses to let time mark faces…

We don’t know the meaning of this new character the singer embodies yet, but we already know that the album that follows the splendid After Hours (2020) includes special guests. Among the features, one can find the legendary Quincy Jones, the quirky rapper Tyler, The Creator, Lil Wayne, the experimental producer Oneohtrix Point Never, and surprisingly, Jim Carrey. The elastic-faced actor became friend with the Canadian pop star sharing a common passion for telescopes. Indeed, the two artists, who are neighbours too, can have a glimpse at each other from their respective home’s balconies in Los Angeles thanks to these astronomical tools. The hero from The Mask (1994) said on Twitter that The Weeknd’s fifth album was “deep and elegant” and that it danced him around the room. As for Bella Hadid’s ex-boyfriend, he declared in an interview that Jim Carrey was the man who inspired him to be a performer.

If we believe the one-minute teaser unveiled by Abel Tesfaye (the artist’s real name) on his social media on January 3rd, the visuals and soundscape of Dawn FM would resemble the cold captivating aesthetic the singer is known for. 2022 will also be the year we discover HBO series The Idol, in which he plays along with Lily-Rose Depp. Last good news, the Canadian singer will be in France to defend his former and newest hits on stage at AccorHotels Arena in Paris (October 18th, 19th, 20th, 2022), in Lyon, Montpellier, and Bordeaux. Unless the pandemic decides otherwise…
