What to expect from the collaboration between Britney Spears and Balenciaga?

Demna, a pop culture enthusiast

Oops, he did it again! If Demna’s creative signature had to be defined beyond his taste for radicalism and theatricality, it would surely be for his keen interest in pop culture. Throughout his time at the helm of Balenciaga, the Georgian designer has playfully slipped in more or less overt references to internet subcultures.

 

From episodes of The Simpsons sponsored by Balenciaga to pink tracksuits reminiscent of Paris Hilton’s Juicy Couture sets and icons Isabelle Huppert and Kim Kardashian as muses of the house… The Demna era at Balenciaga has offered striking marketing moments, infused with a strong passion for pop culture.

The Balenciaga Music Series further illustrates the designer’s interest in popular culture. Since 2021, the Spanish house has invited many artists to create exclusive playlists and capsule collections. After Aya Nakamura, RuPaul and Italian singer Mina, Balenciaga has now set its sights on Britney Spears.

A collection in Britney Spears’s image

On June 3rd, 2025, Balenciaga unveiled a new capsule collection celebrating the impact Britney Spears has had on pop culture. Graphic tees, sweatshirts, studded caps and flags even… A wide range of pieces with the face of the Pop Princess printed all over them shape the house’s Spring 2026 collection.

The photos of Britney Spears, taken by Rankin and Steven Klein, evoke the singer’s glory days. She’s seen wearing crop tops and dramatic black eyeliner – hallmarks of her early 2000s style. In a press release, she shared: “I have always loved fashion and was so honored and excited Balenciaga and Demna chose to collaborate with me for Demna’s last collection with the house. (…) These are some of my favorite images from such an amazing time in my career and life, and I’m so excited to share it with everyone!”

Britney Spears’ name appears in italic handwritten lettering in pastel shades on the pieces of the collection. With its resolutely vintage feel, the collection reflects the signature style of Balenciaga’s Georgian designer – a subtle blend of pop culture and faux casualness. Demna thus delivers a merchandising-inspired collection as a tribute to the Princess of Pop. But above all, this last chapter with the house feels like a farewell for the designer, who is about to take the reins at Gucci.

Alongside the collection comes a playlist curated by Britney Spears herself. Once again, the selection of tracks feels like a tribute to pop culture. The singer brushes over some of the greatest names in pop music from the last decades.

The playlist features a mix of songs by Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Prince, Beyoncé and Grace Jones. Britney Spears also shines a light on the new voices that have emerged on the music scene in recent years.

Today’s pop revelations Addison Rae, Tate McRae, Dua Lipa and Billie Eilish, are also featured on the tracklist curated by the iconic performer. A few surprises round out the Balenciaga Music | Britney Spears series, including rock interludes by legendary bands like The Rolling Stones and Hole…

Remixes by BFRND

Finally, this Balenciaga Music | Britney Spears chapter also includes two remixes of the singer’s iconic hits. The sultry sounds of Gimme More and Oops… I Did It Again are turned into electro-tinged club anthems by French composer BFRND.

A close collaborator of the house, BFRND has been composing the soundtracks for Balenciaga’s runway shows since 2017. After being the focus of his own Balenciaga Music series, the musician now unveils an EP titled BRITNEY4EVER, released alongside the capsule collection.
