Proof in 26 looks that Margot Robbie is the perfect embodiment of Barbie

Currently on a promotional tour for the film Barbie, coming out on July 19th, 2023, Margot Robbie is sparkling on the red carpets with her doll-inspired and very pink looks designed by Versace, Chanel, Valentino, or Prada.

Zendaya, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Zoë Kravitz had already started the trend with red-carpet outfits that matched their characters in The Batman (2022), Matrix Resurrections (2021), and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). In December 2021, Zendaya appeared in a stunning Valentino spiderweb dress at the premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home in Los Angeles. More recently, Halle Bailey and Jenna Ortega dressed as a mermaid and a gothic princess, echoing their latest characters – Ariel, the Little Mermaid, and Wednesday Addams. On the promotional tour of Greta Gerwig’s highly anticipated feature Barbie, out on July 19th, 2023, Margot Robbie and her stylist Andrew Mukamal are setting the bar very high with a doll-like wardrobe coming straight out of the Mattel Universe. In fact, this tour could be called “Pretty in pink” or “50 shades of pink” …

Margot Robbie and her Barbie-inspired looks for the promotional tour of the film Barbie

From Los Angeles to Seoul, Sydney, Mexico City, London, Berlin and New York, the sculptural Australian actress tapped into the looks that the famous doll from Barbie land might have worn for her promotional tour around the globe. Margot Robbie appeared wearing a striped black and white, strapless minidress by Hervé Léger, inspired by the original Barbie doll launched in 1959, and accessorized with a pair of retro sunglasses and high heels. She also sported an outfit similar to the one adorned by the Day-To-Night Barbie doll from the 1980s – a businesswoman’s suit, which can turn into a glittery evening look – or a yellow Chanel suit that flirted with both the plastic doll and the protagonist of the memorable film Clueless (1995). The actress was also seen wearing a series of quite pink Barbiecore looks designed by Chanel, Balmain, Bottega Veneta, Moschino, Prada, Valentino, such as a polka-dot minidress reminiscent of the Barbie doll from 2015 and another one from the house’s spring/summer 1993 collection, or some vintage Versace pieces once worn by different supermodels, including Claudia Schiffer.

Even before she made her high-profile appearances, the heroine of Suicide Squad (2016) had already worn pieces in Barbie’s favorite color on several occasions, with preppy vintage looks and princess dresses close to the most glamorous of toys, such as in The Wolf of Wall Street in 2013. We all have to wait until July 19th to discover the myriad of looks worn by the star of Greta Gerwig’s film, which promises a feminist twist with plenty of Kens as props, and even a metaphysical subtext with references to the Matrix saga…
