Madonna revamps her iconic looks for The Celebration Tour

Madonna kicked off her new tour, The Celebration Tour, in front of a frenzied crowd of fans in London on October 14th, 2023. Her performance was marked by a breathtaking set design, frenzied dancing to her greatest hits and, of course, a collection of sophisticated and subversive looks.

Madonna opens The Celebration Tour in London

Madonna is finally back on stage. Last weekend, the undisputed queen of pop kicked off her new world tour, The Celebration Tour. This series of concerts, which was originally supposed to start on July 15th in the United States, before making a stopover in Europe, had to be rescheduled as the star had been hospitalized because of a serious bacterial infection last June.

To the greatest delight of her fans, Madonna took to the stage in better shape than ever. Despite a few blunders that costed her a €350,000 fine, such as the two-hour late start of her concert, the performer of Like a Virgin (1984) revisited the biggest hits of her four-decade career. The program included a fantastic set, a frenzied lap dance, a fiery voguing session with British singer FKA Twigs, the appearance of Madonna’s daughters, Estere and Lourdes Leon, and a showcase of her new stage outfits, each more iconic than the other.

A 40-year-long career and iconic looks

Like Beyoncé with her Renaissance World Tour or Taylor Swift with The Eras Tour, Madonna set the stage on fire with a series of flamboyant looks, inspired by specific moments in her career. With the help of her creative duo, stylists Eyob Yohannes and Rita Melssen, the star who sold over 335 million records first appeared on stage wearing a long black cape and a large halo-like headband designed by Eyob Yohannes.

Later, she sported two total looks designed by the French label Vetements. The first one featured a brown leather corset and cowboy boots, as a direct reference to the cowboy aesthetic of the album Music (2000). The second outfit combined an ultra-sexy red slip dress with a boxing robe evoking the cover of the album Hard Candy (2008).

While she was a vision in her Versace interstellar catsuit, Madonna didn’t forget to pay tribute to one of her signature silhouettes: the cone bra designed by Jean Paul Gaultier. The fashion house created a 2.0 version of the bra worn on the Blond Ambition Tour (1990). Here, it morphs into a black beaded dress, embellished with two small, pointed breasts. There is good reason to look forward to Madonna’s concerts in Paris next November.

Madonna is currently touring the world for The Celebration Tour. She will be performing in Paris from November 12th to 20th, 2023.
