Thebe Magugu pays tribute to her family in her Spring/Summer 2022 collection

Since winning the LVMH Prize in 2019, Thebe Magugu has come a long way. Faithful to his roots and his country, South Africa, where he still concentrates most of his production, the young designer has decided this season to pay tribute to his family in the company of the two women who matter most in his life: his mother and his aunt. Filmed around a table, the three of them meet to discuss the silhouettes of this spring-summer 2022 collection, all inspired by an outfit worn by members of their family in archive photographs. A dive into their intimate memory awakened here with shirt dresses, asymmetrical trench coats and pleated skirts, some marked by belts, new wax face prints and a revamped bandana pattern, a bright color palette far from overwhelming – from red to green, fuchsia and purple – as well as Pointed boots and pumps, which confirm the South African designer’s emphasis on accessories.
