Take a trip with Balmain and Olivier Rousteing for Fall-Winter 2021-2022

Inspired by a journey around the world undertaken by Pierre Balmain to present his first haute couture collection, Olivier Rousteing brings out our desire and need for freedom.

Seventy-five years ago, just after the Paris show of his first haute couture collection, Pierre Balmain, on the advice of the author and poet Gertrude Stein, undertook a trip to the United States, London and Australia to present French culture and savoir-faire. An exciting adventure that resonates more than ever in today’s environment, where travelling is all but impossible.

Echoing this era, Olivier Rousteing gives us a Balmain fall-winter 2021-2022 collection, filmed in front of a plane, inspired by the theme of travel with men’s and women’s silhouettes referencing the uniforms of pilots and astronauts: pieces in parachute fabric or lamé technical fabrics, functional and multitasking suits, coats, skirts and trousers in protective quilted fabrics, belts inspired by aeroplane seat belts, lace-up flight boots, aviator jackets, luggage-style accessories… In the background, we notice references to French fashion, notably through elegant and nonchalant silhouettes, as well as glamorous looks inspired by mid-20th century travel.
