Saint Laurent announces it will no longer be showing during Fashion Week

While the four main fashion capitals had already cancelled their menswear Fashion Weeks set to take place in June, because of Covid-19, more news from Saint Laurent and its artistic director Anthony Vaccarello has further shaken the fashion industry. Yesterday, the house founded by Yves Saint Laurent in 1961 declared that it would no longer be taking part in the official women’s Fashion Week calendar and won’t be holding a show in the months of February and September, as has been the case up until now. 

While it’s not the first time that a label has chosen to step outside the economic and creative constraints inherent to Fashion Week – Alexander Wang presents his collections in January and June, and Azzedine Alaia organised his shows entirely according to what suited him – never has a historic Parisian house taken the initiative to present their collections outside the official calendar since it was first established in 1973.
