Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2023 show in San Diego

At the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in San Diego designed by architect Louis Kahn, Nicolas Guesquière offers a Louis Vuitton Cruise 2023 collection that unfolds earth-toned nomadic and flowing silhouettes.

After he previously opted for the Maeght Foundation in the South of France, the Miho Museum in Kyoto, the Niterói Contemporary Art Museum designed by Oscar Niemeyer, or the TWA Flight Center in New York created by Eero Saarinen, Nicolas Ghesquière takes us once more to an outstanding architectural venue for his Louis Vuitton Cruise 2023 collection. This time, he stages his show in San Diego, California, at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies designed by Louis Kahn. The Brutalist masterpiece characterized by its impressive volumes is today an independent and non-profit scientific research institute which specializes in biomedicine, molecular biology, genetics, and neurosciences.

For this collection, the spirit of travel dear to the French house takes root in the flowing and soft silhouettes designed for arid and sunny regions, with futurist patchworks of linen, jacquard, silk, leather, and tweed. Thus, hoods evoke lithams, draped lurex meshes are reminiscent of ancient oriental clothing, while sirwal pants match rigid sleeveless jackets. The collection displays a wide range of metallic shades and reshapes the notion of opulence in a new retro-futurist style.
