A brand where fashion meets art
A Jacquemus fashion show at the Maeght Foundation
On January 17 and 18, 2024, Jacquemus revealed some information about his upcoming collection via two humorous videos published on the Instagram account of his brand.
While the first, which features actress Kristin Davis, star of the series Sex and The City and its sequel, And Just Like That…, reveals its name – Les Sculptures – and its date – Monday 29 January 2024 at noon –, the second, inspired by the viral videos that are flooding social media, announces the location – the Maeght Foundation, located in Saint-Paul-de-Vence.
In the heart of Provence, this institution founded in 1964 by Marguerite and Aimé Maeght brings together some 13,000 works of modern and contemporary art signed by major figures, in a place designed by the architect Josep Lluís Sert (who created Joan Miró’s workshop in Palma de Mallorca).
Before this Jacquemus fashion show, the first European private foundation dedicated to art hosted Nicolas Ghesquière’s cruise fashion show for Louis Vuitton in 2018.
In addition to minimalist and sensual collections, the picturesque settings of its shows (the Chateau de Versailles in 2023, the Camargue in 2021, a wheat field in 2020) and a prestigious and international community – Dua Lipa, Bad Bunny, Laetitia Casta and Kendall Jenner –, participated in building the Jacquemus myth.
Today, among the stars already spotted in the south of France, we can cite the stylist Jenna Lyons (star of the reality TV show Real Housewives of New York City), the actor Arón Piper (seen in the series Elite on Netflix). Now, we’re waiting to find out who the other guests will be and if Kristin Davis will be there.
Six pieces from The Sculptures shown on Instagram
But that’s not all. Alongside these videos, the French fashion designer, a true master in the field of viral marketing, released via an Instagram six pieces from the collection ahead of the show : This next collection is all about the products. Tonight, I will unveil six of them. A very first preview!.
Among its six pieces, there is the pair of Zizi by Repetto with square toes and geometric heels (already available for purchase); the Nodi refined interlacing bracelet; the Pilota leather jacket, inspired by the one worn by sculptor Alberto Giacometti; the Le Petit Calino bag whose organic shapes evoke the works of British sculptor Henry Moore, the Ovalo sunglasses; the rigid and round Vanito bag, the astonishing pair of Les Doubles Sandales shoes, made up of two superimposed pairs; as well as the Cubisto boots, combining a slingback pump and a velvet boot.
Once again, Simon Porte Jacquemus invents his own rules in terms of communication. Firstly by showing outside Fashion Weeks schedules in Paris, but also, and above all, because he brings curiosity and desire, a few days before his show. A fashion event that has become unmissable and among one of the most followed each year.
