Dior unveils a virtuoso and folkloric Fall/Winter 2022-2023 Couture collection
On Monday, July 4th, Dior presented its Fall/Winter 2022-2023 haute couture collection at the Rodin Museum in Paris. As a true ode to crafts and folk cultures, Maria Grazia Chiuri’s new collection revolves around the concept of the tree of life.

Keeping up with her desire to highlight the crafts and know-hows of the House of Dior, which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior artistic director of the women’s collections since 2017, has created a deceptively simple wardrobe for the Fall/Winter 2022-2023 collection based on the concept of the tree of life. With a bewitching scenography, specially designed by the Ukrainian artist Olesia Trofymenko, whose giant trees embroidered on the walls evoke the cultural heritage and folk traditions of her home country, the collection initiates a dialogue between arts and crafts through the lens of couture. The silhouettes offer a feeling of calmness with their impeccable lines, and a soft color palette ranging from virginal white to earthy tones, black, and pastel tones. Throughout the collection, Maria Grazia Chiuri invites us to immerse ourselves in a profusion of cotton, silk, and rope threads embroidery on cotton, wool crepe, silk, and cashmere – such as in this immaculate white dress with a simple neckline. Elsewhere, sleeves increase while waists tighten, all cut in the midi length dear to the Parisian house. This collection also offers an opportunity to rediscover the great evening gowns in vaporous silk, enhanced by a virtuoso play of smockings embracing the body curves in a light evanescent movement. Once again this season, Maria Grazia Chiuri shows us what she does best – mixing incredible crafts with a freedom in cuts that leave the body free to move.
