A snowstorm for an impressive Balenciaga fall-winter 2022-2023 show
In an impressive set reproducing a snowstorm, Demna presented his Balenciaga fall-winter 2022-2023 collection in which classic and even refined silhouettes met daring hybrid pieces.
One of the most influential artistic directors of our time, Demna once again summoned contemporary issues in his fall-winter 2022-2023 show presented on Sunday 6th March 2022 at Le Bourget. Evoking on the one hand environmental hazards, but also the capacity of men to artificially reproduce what is extinct, the artistic director had his models walk in a snowstorm contained in a glass dome. Designed several weeks before the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, an event that revived painful memories for the designer of Georgian origin who has himself experienced exile, this fashion show also conveys a message of resilience.
In this turmoil, the Balenciaga fall-winter 2022-2023 collection unfolded with silhouettes that were either extremely sober or bold and oversize. They included elastic hybrid dresses and bodysuits –which Kim Kardashian has been sporting for several months– as well as turtlenecks, trousers and hoodies that were partially damaged, shrunken or enlarged. The leather, denim, down, bomber or tracksuit jacket is the must-have piece of the season, while trench coats are designed to be folded and transported easily. Finally, the house presented a long coat made of EPHEATM, a cutting-edge material and a viable organic alternative to leather made from mycelium, manufactured organically through a patented process and finished with a sustainable treatment.
