Lana Del Rey: what to expect from her first poetry book?
After the success met by “Norman Fucking Rowell”, Lana Del Rey’s sixth studio album released last August, the American singer finally announces the release date of her first book of poetry.
By Allan Lemarchand.
“Best album in the world”: that’s the price Lana Del Rey’s sixth studio album, Norman Fucking Rockwell won at the NME Awards last February. Praised by both critics and the public, the American singer has taken upon a new project. After announcing the release of her first poetry book in December 2019, Lana Del Rey just revealed new information on her upcoming project. Named Violet Bent Backwards Over The Grass, the book will first be released as an audiobook. With a length of thirty-three minutes, it will contain fourteen original poems read by the American signer, and put to music by Jack Antonoff, indie-pop band Fun’s guitarist. Accordingly to her aesthetic, Lana Del Rey will unveil texts filled with melancholia, yearning, drama and nostalgia, with titles such as Violets Ben Backwards Over The Grass, LA Who Am I To Love You? or Never to Heaven.
“The title of the book is also the one of the first poem that I wrote, says the singer about how she tackled the writing process. Some of them came to me in their entirety, I then proceeded to record them and type them down. For others, I had to think long and hard, tearing apart every word until I was able to write the perfect poem. My poems are eclectic, honest, and they don’t pretend to be something they’re not.” Available for preorders on Amazon, the audiobook will be released on July 28, and sold for $10.35. The hardcover version will be released on September 29. The earnings of the sale will be donated to charities supporting Native Americans. Lana Del Rey revealed on Instagram that she hoped to raise more than one million dollars in the following month for the Navajo Water Project, a charity aiming at bringing clean water to all American households.
