Why the biopic on Springsteen with Jeremy Allen White might rekindle your love for the genre

After turning heads in the series The Bear, the film The Iron Claw, and a recent sultry campaign for Calvin Klein, actor Jeremy Allen White is set to portray the iconic American rocker Bruce Springsteen in an upcoming biopic titled Deliver Me From Nowhere. The film focuses on the creation of his cult album Nebraska (released in 1982). Here’s everything we know about this exciting project.

  • The lives of music legends have become filmmakers’ favorite playground. Ever since the flamboyant Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) about Freddie Mercury and Rocketman (2019) about Elton John, music biopics seem to be a steady trend. Even though they often disappoint due to their overly hagiographic tone. Now a new biopic about Bruce Spingsteen is about to be released.

A promising biopic about Bruce Springsteen

That being said, the latest entry in the genre might just win people over in the coming months. The biopic focuses on the brilliant Bruce Springsteen – the legendary American singer-songwriter, showman, and guitarist behind masterpieces like Dancing in the Dark, Born in the U.S.A., and I’m on Fire.

Titled Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere (2026), the biopic will chronicle the making of the 1982 album Nebraska. It is considered as one of the musician’s finest works. The album features musically striking tracks like State Trooper, as well as lyrics that sound like powerful social chronicles. Some of these lyrics even inspired a film. In fact, the song Highway Patrolman, which explores the relationship between two brothers, a criminal and a policeman, influenced Sean Penn’s The Indian Runner (1991).

The birth of the album Nebraska

The synopsis of the biopic about Bruce Springsteen? “The development of Nebraska, which followed Springsteen’s 1981 TheRiver Tour, marked a pivotal time in his life, one that he would only openly talk about decades after its release. It’s regarded as a landmark in his musical odyssey and a source of inspiration for generation of artists and musicians. Recorded on a 4-track recorder in Springsteen’s New Jersey bedroom and without the E Street Band, Nebraska is considered as one of Springsteen’s most enduring works – a raw, haunted acoustic record populated by lost souls searching for a reason to believe.

The feature film, written and directed by American actor and filmmaker Scott Cooper (Hostiles starring Christian Bale), is an adaptation of Deliver Me From Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska, a book written by Warren Zanes published in 2023.

To portray this rock icon, who sold over 64 million records in his career, Hollywood has turned to one of its rising stars. Indeed, Jeremy Allen White will slip into the skin of “The Boss.” His sex appeal, close to that of the singer himself, is already making waves. And the film’s first teaser is proof of that. Young actress Odessa Young (Shirley, 2020) will star alongside him as Bruce Springsteen’s first wife.

A rising star in American cinema

Jeremy Allen White first gained attention in the series Shameless (2011–2021) and more recently in The Bear (since 2022). His performance in the first season of Christopher Storer’s culinary drama series was unanimously acclaimed. His portrayal of a chef struggling to save the family restaurant after his brother’s suicide earned him the Golden Globe for Best Actor in Comedy TV Series at the 82nd ceremony in 2024.

No stranger to intense roles, the Calvin Klein ambassador made a splash in cinema as a member of the legendary Von Erich wrestling family in the film The Iron Claw (2024), alongside Zac Efron and Lily James. In short, a smart casting choice that confirms once again that Jeremy Allen White is one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood today.
