Since the release of her album Rare in 2020, Selena Gomez has been focusing most of her time on her acting career. In the past few years, the superstar has taken the world by storm with multiple appearances on the big and small screens. She has also been making a splash with her Rare Beauty cosmetics brand, launched in 2019. Her beauty products are regularly being praised all over social media for their remarkable quality and high pigmentation.

Since 2021, the American actress has been showcasing her talents as a performer, playing a variety of complex characters in the series Only Murders in the Building or in the feature film Emilia Pérez (2024). As both the series produced by Hulu and Jacques Audiard’s film have received several nominations and awards – Academy Awards, César, Golden Globes, Cannes Film Festival – the name of the singer-actress is now more bankable than ever.

I Said I Love You First, a long-awaited new record

Selena Gomez’s intention to completely devote herself to her acting career had been confirmed several times in interviews and left little room for the possibility of a new album. Yet, the pop star wrote a post on Instagram that went viral on Valentine’s Day.

Alongside photos of herself with her fiancé Benny Blanco, the caption announced the release of the star’s next album I Said I Love You First, co-written and co-produced with the latter.

The first track, a ballad titled Scared of Loving You, was released the same day and unveiled the romantic, retro aesthetic of this new opus, as well as its release date, scheduled a month later on Friday 21 March 2025.

Over the past few weeks, the two lovebirds have teased the project with a series of photoshoots, including one for Interview Magazine. They have also posted videos and pictures on their respective Instagram and TikTok accounts.

As a countdown to the release of the album, Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco are sharing a piece of their story daily, starting with their first date, then their engagement and, more recently, the full tracklist of their album.

Their latest surprise is the release of the single Sunset Blvd with the music video shot by photographer Petra Collins. In a vintage Hollywood atmosphere, the American singer revisits the sexiest tone of voice and slow rhythm of the brillant tracks she released back in 2017, like Fetish or Bad Liar, thus offering one last foretaste before the highly-anticipated official release of her new record.

Aside from Call Me When You Break Up with Gracie Abrams, the album doesn’t seem to feature any other artist. Let’s see what kind of turn the American star is about to take, but we’re hoping her new opus will measure up to the excellent Rare and break away from the cheesy, commercial melodies of Love On (2024) or Single Soon (2024)…
