Her name is still little-known in France, but Romy Mars can boast having some of the coolest parents in the world. Her mother, American Sofia Coppola, is the acclaimed director, actress, producer, and screenwriter behind The Virgin Suicides (1999) and Lost in Translation (2003). As for her father, Thomas Mars, he is the singer of the Versailles-based indie pop band Phoenix.

Up until now, however, the young woman has largely kept a low profile. Born on November 28th, 2006, in Paris, Romy Croquet Mars and her sister Cosima were kept away from the limelight because their parents chose to shield them from the suffocating world of celebrity early on. But of course, that peace didn’t last long…
She went viral on TikTok with a bold video
In the past few years, Romy Croquet Mars, now 18, has started to reveal more of herself. In 2020, she became a model for the label Heaven by Marc Jacobs, a designer very close to her mother.
She has also recently made headlines by posting videos on TikTok. The content creator went viral in 2023 by sharing a surprising video of herself making pasta with a vodka sauce. With a touch of humor, she opened up about how indifferent her parents were, claiming she was grounded at the time for attempting to take a helicopter from New York to Maryland to visit her friends.
The nepo baby Romy Mars also jokes about the fact that her parents are never home. But could the young videographer soon follow in her mother’s footsteps?

Among the stars attending the premiere of the science fiction film Megalopolis, Romy Mars caused a sensation next to Adam Driver at the 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival on May 16th, 2024.
Dressed in a stunning strapless Chanel dress for the occasion, she lit up the red carpet arm in arm with her grandfather, the renowned director Francis Ford Coppola. Did this mean the young woman was considering a move into cinema?
A budding career in pop music
It seems that, like her father, music is where her true interest lies. Romy Mars released her first EP, Stuck Up, in 2024, which includes two promising, “bedroom” pop tracks. In May 2025, she went a step further with the new, captivating single A-Lister. The cherry on top? The young woman, who was spotted at a Charli XCX concert, had her mother Sofia Coppola to direct the romantic music video of the song.
Although Romy Mars admits in interviews that she is lucky to have a strong support network, her talent is undeniable. The young artist has been writing songs since the age of 12 and collaborates with the non-binary composer Claud. She also has a gift for crafting poetic lyrics: “Red T-shirt, blue eyes, black hair / Slipped into a nightmare / Always gonna be stuck in it / Always gonna be stuck holding.” All of which suggests a bright future for her in pop music.
