American singer SZA is making her film debut alongside Keke Palmer in the comedy One of Them Days, directed by Lawrence Lamont. The filmmaker, not widely known to the public, notably directed J. Cole’s G.O.M.D music video in 2015.

Best friends and roommates, Dreux (Keke Palmer) and Alyssa (SZA) are about to face a particularly hectic day. When they find out that Alyssa’s boyfriend has spent the rent money, the two set off on a frantic race against time. Their goal? Avoid eviction and preserve their friendship.
One of Them Days, set to be released on VOD in France in April 2025, is a comedy by Lawrence Lamont, who also directed J. Cole’s G.O.M.D video in 2015. The screenplay was written by Syreeta Singleton, writer on the series Insecure. The film also topped the U.S. box office the weekend of January 18, 2025, ahead of Mufasa, Wolf Man, and Sonic 3.

The R’n’B star SZA makes her acting debut alongside Keke Palmer, known for her role in Jordan Peele’s Nope (2022), and Kat Williams, a famous American comedian.
A frequent collaborator of Kendrick Lamar, Doja Cat, and Rihanna, SZA has become one of the most respected R’n’B artists with three EPs and two albums. Celebrated by both the music press and the public, she won three Grammy Awards in 2023, including “Best R’n’B Song.”
The film is produced by African-American actress and screenwriter Issa Rae, a prominent advocate for Black inclusion in cinema. It was developed at Sony Pictures’ CoCre Lab — a joint initiative between Issa Rae’s production company ColorCreative and Sony Pictures. Their mission? To help young diverse screenwriters develop their first films.
