It’s a transformed Ana de Armas—fierce and unrecognizable as a vengeful ballerina—that we discover in Ballerina, a spin-off of the John Wick saga, alongside Keanu Reeves. Here’s everything we know about this stylish and dangerous film, hitting theaters on June 4, 2025.

From Bond girl to assassin: Ana de Armas stars in Ballerina
After her glamorous role as a Bond girl in No Time to Die (2021)—draped in an evening gown and diamonds—or her haunting portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in Blonde, Ana de Armas takes a bold leap into new territory. The announcement at the high-profile CinemaCon 2024 (held from April 8–11) created a major buzz.
A spin-off of the blockbuster John Wick franchise, where Keanu Reeves has starred since 2014, this new installment gives the Cuban-Spanish actress a deeper dive into the action genre—a realm she’s already entered with flair.
From her dazzling, badass fight scene in No Time to Die (2021) to her enigmatic CIA agent role in Ghosted (2023) alongside Chris Evans, she seems more determined than ever to stake her claim in this high-octane universe.
Ballerina: Sexy, dangerous, and true to the John Wick spirit
Described by Variety as a “knockout film,” Ballerina promises to be a thrilling ride. Ana de Armas goes full-on fierce—torching her enemies with flamethrowers, leaping from vehicle to vehicle, and handling choreographed combat scenes with lethal grace.
Transformed into a relentless assassin in the trailer for Ballerina, set to release on June 4, 2025, de Armas plays a dancer out for revenge after her family is murdered. Sporting short bangs and a back covered in tattoos, she’s almost unrecognizable.
Recently, Ana de Armas spoke with Collider about the shoot:
“We captured some amazing footage. It’s truly spectacular. I’m very proud of it. It’s thrilling, it’s dangerous, it’s sexy—it’s very John Wick. I think people are going to be surprised. I mean, of course I love the movie, but I really think it’s cool. It’s going to be incredible.”
Keanu Reeves returns to the John Wick universe
While Ana de Armas takes center stage in this new entry in the John Wick universe, one of the film’s big surprises is the return of Keanu Reeves. This, despite his character seemingly bowing out at the end of John Wick: Chapter 4, as the Canadian-American actor admitted to feeling exhausted by the intense physical demands of the role.
Set during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019), Ballerina rewinds the timeline, offering a new perspective on the famed hitman’s journey—specifically, his encounter with a young woman named Rooney, played by de Armas.
The cast also includes John Wick alumni like Anjelica Huston, along with Norman Reedus and Gabriel Byrne. Behind the camera, Len Wiseman (Underworld, 2003–2011) steps in as director, taking over from franchise creator Chad Stahelski.
Ballerina (2025), directed by Len Wiseman, starring Ana de Armas and Keanu Reeves, hits theaters on June 4, 2025.
