The Fantastic Four: Who’s joining Vanessa Kirby and Pedro Pascal on screen?
Due for release on July 23, 2025, the much-anticipated reboot of the iconic comic book The Fantastic Four: First Steps is becoming more and more concrete. The cast was unveiled via a post on X (formerly Twitter), and a first trailer has just been released. Discover who will be starring alongside actors Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby.

After three previous films released in 2005, 2007, and 2015, The Fantastic Four will make a grand comeback in cinemas on July 23, 2025. The 2005 version introduced audiences to the story of four scientist-astronaut friends who gain superpowers after being exposed to dangerous radiation during a failed space expedition.

Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby join the cast of Marvel’s new Fantastic Four film
Put on hold for several months due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike (the American actors’ union), this new adaptation produced by Marvel and directed by Matt Shakman (WandaVision, Star Trek 4) is now steadily progressing.
Following a long silence, the official Fantastic Four X account reactivated on February 14, 2024, posting a comic book-style image seemingly inspired by the 1960s. Could it be a hint that the film’s plot will be set during that era?
The image shows the four main heroes, and the caption reveals the cast: “Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn are The Fantastic Four.”
Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn join Marvel’s cast
Pedro Pascal, star of The Last of Us, will play the team’s leader, Reed Richards. Vanessa Kirby, who recently starred in Napoleon, will portray Sue Storm. Rising actor Joseph Quinn, known for Stranger Things Season 4, will play Johnny Storm, a.k.a. the Human Torch, while Ebon Moss-Bachrach, seen in The Bear, will take on the role of Ben Grimm, also known as the Thing.
Deadline magazine also revealed that actress Julia Garner (Ozark) has joined the already star-studded cast. She will play one of the versions of the Silver Surfer. Other cast members include John Malkovich, Ralph Ineson, Paul Walter Hauser, and Natasha Lyonne (Russian Doll).
After the first two films featuring the same cast (Jessica Alba, Chris Evans), this new lineup has sparked mixed reactions. Still, it’s creating plenty of buzz for a franchise that failed to win over audiences with its 2015 reboot.
Fantastic Four: First Steps takes place in a retro-futuristic 1960s New York
In November 2024, Disney finally unveiled the official synopsis, which suggests a fresh direction compared to earlier films:
“Set in the dynamic backdrop of a retro-futuristic 1960s world, The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Marvel’s First Family—Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/the Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/the Human Torch, and Ben Grimm/the Thing—as they face their most formidable challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must protect Earth from a ravenous cosmic god named Galactus and his enigmatic messenger, the Silver Surfer. And as if Galactus’s plan to devour the entire planet weren’t terrifying enough, it suddenly becomes very personal…”
Julia Garner transformed into a terrifying creature
A newly released trailer on April 17, 2025, sheds more light on the plot. Sue Storm, played by Vanessa Kirby, is pregnant as she faces an extraterrestrial threat with her family. The trailer also offers a glimpse of Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer. The three-time Emmy winner for Ozark appears transformed into a terrifying, metal-like humanoid creature.
And while Galactus’s ominous presence looms in the background, we can’t wait to finally see the face of the fearsome foe awaiting the heroes. Here’s hoping this third adaptation will finally restore the image of Marvel’s most family-oriented team.
