After the erotic thriller Babygirl, what’s next for Nicole Kidman?
Actress Nicole Kidman is stacking up audacious film and TV projects, such as the erotic thriller Babygirl, which earned her the Volpi Cup at the Venice Film Festival. The film is so daring that the star admits she can’t even bring herself to go to the cinema to watch it. Yet, it has also cemented her position as one of Hollywood’s greatest actresses.

Nicole Kidman is one of the most risk-taking American actresses. Her roles in Eyes Wide Shut (1999) and The Paperboy (2012) have shown that she’s not afraid to be provocative on screen.
The 57-year-old star shows no signs of slowing down. Recently starring in the film A Family Affair (2024) on Netflix, she played a woman involved in a love affair with a much younger man, portrayed by Zac Efron.

Nicole Kidman, star of the erotic thriller Babygirl
With the film Babygirl, directed by Halina Reijn (Instinct, Bodies Bodies Bodies) and co-starring Antonio Banderas, she continues along that path. Premiering at the 2024 Venice Film Festival and now available on Canal VOD, this erotic thriller tells the story of a CEO who starts a love affair with an intern played by Harris Dickinson (Triangle of Sadness). A torrid, BDSM extramarital relationship that will have huge consequences on both her family life and professional career.
The film is explicit and includes many graphic sex scenes that will surely delight fans of Fifty Shades of Grey. So much so that Nicole Kidman herself isn’t sure she can bear to watch it on the big screen. In an interview with Vanity Fair, she confessed: “There’s something in me going, ‘Okay, this was made for the big screen and to be seen with people.’ But then I’m like, ‘That’s a high-wire act. I’m not sure I have that much bravery’. Maybe I will see it that way – I’ll let you know. I’ve made some films that are pretty exposing before, but not like this.”

Nicole Kidman takes on her boldest role yet
According to Nicole Kidman, this film isn’t meant for all audiences: “That’s a very weird feeling. This is something you do and hide in your home videos.”
The actress added that her involvement in a project exploring female desire with such nuance was exhausting: “I felt extremely exposed as an actress, as a woman, as a human being. I had to go in and go out like, I need to put my protection back on. What have I just done?”
But the risk paid off. The actress electrified the festival with her performance in the erotic thriller Babygirl. She earned the Volpi Cup for Best Actress. However, she was unable to collect the award at the Venice Film Festival closing ceremony due to the passing of her mother.
Multiple upcoming projects for the star of Holland
This personal tragedy aside, 2024 was a prolific year for the star, who continues to work on a series of projects. And 2025 looks just as busy. Since September 5th, 2024, she’s also been starring in the gripping mystery series The Perfect Couple, a Clue-like mystery set in an idyllic location reminiscent of Big Little Lies and The White Lotus.
The premise of this show, whose dance sequence has already achieved cult status? “When one lavish wedding ends in disaster before it can even begin – with a body discovered in Nantucket Harbor just hours before the ceremony – everyone in the wedding party is suddenly a suspect.” Once again, the actress delivers an icy, yet captivating performance as a wealthy, sophisticated author whose world suddenly collapses.
And there’s more. Nicole Kidman also stars in the film Holland (2025), directed by Mimi Cave (Fresh). Released on Prime Video on March 27th, this feature has already won over fans of horror movies. The story follows a woman who suspects her husband of cheating. She decides to cheat in return, only to discover that he’s a serial killer. Yet another project that confirms Nicole Kidman’s taste for complex, unsettling roles.
Nicole Kidman soon to star in the series Girls and Their Horses
In addition to the film Holland, Nicole Kidman will soon appear in numerous upcoming films and TV shows, including Margo’s Got Money Troubles (starring Elle Fanning and Michelle Pfeiffer), The Last Anniversary, Practical Magic 2, Scarpetta, Mice, and Hope…
According to the American media Variety, the actress is also set to star in the series Girls and Their Horses, developed by Amazon for Prime Video. Early reports indicate that the show is adapted from Eliza Jane Brazier’s novel Girls and Their Horses, published in 2023.
