What are Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio’s upcoming projects?
Filmmaker Martin Scorsese is bringing Leonardo DiCaprio and Dwayne Johnson together in his new film, based on a true story and focused on the Hawaiian mob. Leonardo DiCaprio will also star in a new adaptation of the novel What Happens at Night, directed by Scorsese and starring Jennifer Lawrence and Mads Mikkelsen.

A project bringing together Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio and… Dwayne Johnson
It’s one of the most surprising projects of the moment. The legendary director Martin Scorsese has cast Leonardo DiCaprio and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the lead roles of his new feature film… According to early reports from the American press, this to-be-titled film will plunge viewers into the world of Hawaiian underworld in the 1960s and 1970s.
Inspired by the life of a real Hawaiian mob boss, the feature will explore the violent power struggles between gangs for control of the islands, while also highlighting the underworld’s resistance to the growing influence of mainland American corporations. Rumour has it that Emily Blunt may be joining the prestigious cast. This time, the script will not be penned by Paul Schrader, but by acclaimed journalist and screenwriter Nick Bilton, who confirmed his participation in the project via his Instagram account.
Scorsese gathers Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence and Mads Mikkelsen
This project marks the first collaboration between Martin Scorsese and Dwayne Johnson, while reunites Leonardo DiCaprio and the director after a long string of collaborations. Among them are the acclaimed Gangs of New York (2002), The Aviator (2004), and the must-watch The Wolf of Wall Street (2013).
But the 83-year-old New York filmmaker isn’t done with major adaptations just yet. He is now focusing on What Happens at Night (2020), a novel written by American author Peter Cameron.
Backed by Studiocanal and Apple Original Films — both partners of Scorsese on Killers of the Flower Moon — the project will reunite Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, who previously starred together in Don’t Look Up (2021). According to the newsletter The InSneider, the cast may also welcome Danish star actor Mads Mikkelsen.
