Toy Story to get a prequel

Pixar Studios has teamed up with Disney to produce the first-ever spin-off of the cult animated film Toy Story. Entitled Lightyear, the film will revisit the origins of one of the saga’s leading characters… Buzz Lightyear.

In 1995, the very first animated film Toy Story, directed by John Lasseter and the inspiration for a number of Pixar and Disney masterpieces, was released to immediate success, grossing four hundred million dollars worldwide. This was followed by three other successful sequels: Toy Story 2, directed again by John Lasseter in 1999, Toy Story 3 by Lee Unkrich in 2010, and Toy Story 4 by Josh Cooley in 2019.

For over twenty-five years now, this wonderful story of living toys and their madcap misadventures has enthralled young and old alike, but has yet to be given a spin-off. Until now. Pixar Studios – recently behind the films Soul and
Forward
 – have teamed up with Disney to produce the first-ever prequel to the cult animated film, focusing on one of its star characters… Buzz Lightyear.

The film, scheduled for release on June 22, 2022, will revisit the origins of the famous toy, this time dubbed by actor Chris Evans (
Captain America
) rather than Tim Allen, who before playing a toy was a real cosmonaut who ventured to the farthest reaches of the solar system. Directed by Angus MacLane(Dory’s World), the feature film, entitled Lightyear, will feature scenes worthy of a science-fiction film, with a multitude of ships and other robots in the style of the Star Wars saga.
