Tilda Swinton and her daughter reunited in a film about grief

The second part of a dramatic diptych, The Souvenir II brings together Tilda Swinton and her daughter in a beautiful, sensitive and trying duo. Accompanied by her mother and her loved ones, a young woman goes through her first heartbreak and a painful mourning. The film will be released in theaters in the United States on October 29 and soon in France.

In the heart of 80s London, Julie tries to overcome the loss of her lover, a seductive and manipulative man named Anthony, who died of a heroin overdose. Accompanied by her mother, played by the grandiose Tilda Swinton, the young woman transcends her grief by devoting herself fully to the making of her graduation film. In the hushed atmosphere of London’s high society, Julie, with a vague soul, gradually asserts herself by leaving her heavy past behind.

Second part of the diptych directed by London filmmaker Johanna Hogg The Souvenir II paints the portrait of a tried and tested artist. Aged 23,  Honor Tildon Byrn – Tilda Swinton’s daughter –  embodies the young director well combed with talent. The British actress plays  the mother of this young Julie. In parallel with this beautiful duo,  the Franco-Greek actress Ariane Labed and the British actor Richard Ayoade enrich this beautiful cast. Once considered a confidential director, Johanna Hogg is now a major voice in British independent cinema: her previous film, The Souvenir, was a brilliant success. With this dual form, the director, born in 1960, offers an enigmatic and sensitive dytique, in which she looks back on her own youth in a film that looks like an autobiography.
