The Drama: What we know about the film with Robert Pattinson and Zendaya

A few years after the release of the dark comedy Sick of Myself (2022), starring Kristine Kujath Thorp, and the feature film Dream Scenario (2023), in which Nicolas Cage embodies an awkward professor, Norwegian director Kristoffer Borgli is outlining the plot of his new project.
According to early reports shared by American media Deadline earlier this year, The Drama (2026) will tell the story of a couple whose relationship is shaken up days before their wedding. The film will also mark the highly anticipated first on-screen collaboration between actress Zendaya and actor Robert Pattinson. While we know that the film is slated for release on April 3, 2026, in the United States, no French release date has been announced yet…
In an interview with Première magazine, Robert Pattinson described a particularly tense shoot. He explained that he had to call Zendaya in the middle of the night to talk about a complex scene. “We had a scene together that was driving me crazy,” the actor recalled. “I was desperately trying to understand its meaning, to the point of writing pages and pages of textual analysis… The night before the shoot, I ended up calling Zendaya. I shared all my doubts with her, talked for two hours, and after a while, she finally made me understand, very calmly, that the line just meant what it meant and that there wasn’t any hidden meaning.”

Behind the camera, Kristoffer Borgli seems to have gathered the dream team. The Drama will be produced by A24, the cult studio behind Civil War, Love Lies Bleeding, and more recently MaXXXine. This production choice foreshadows a film with a tense atmosphere and a curated aesthetic blending with an unsettling and captivating narrative.
Like the feature Dream Scenario (2023), The Drama is expected to be co-produced by Ari Aster, the horror mastermind behind the harrowing Beau Is Afraid (2023) starring Joaquin Phoenix. As for the cast, actress and singer Alana Haim (Licorice Pizza), Mamoudou Athie (Kinds of Kindness) and Hailey Gates (Challengers) will join Zendaya and Robert Pattinson on screen.
Until the release of The Drama next year, fans of Robert Pattinson can catch the actor in Mickey 17, the space thriller by visionary director Bong Joon-ho (Parasite), now available on Canal VOD. Meanwhile, actress Zendaya is currently filming new episodes for the third season of the series Euphoria.
The Drama (2026), directed by Kristoffer Borgli and starring Robert Pattinson and Zendaya, will come out on April 3rd, 2026, in the United States. Release dates in other countries haven’t been announced yet.
