Erotic thriller with Chloë Sevigny, horror movie… FKA twigs’s wild film projects
Singer, dancer, actress and renowned performer, FKA twigs keeps rising up in the cinema industry. After the announcement of a biopic about Joséphine Baker, she now steps into the role of Mother Mary in the Bible-inspired horror film The Carpenter’s Son (2025).

Constantly reinventing herself, British-born artist FKA twigs never stops multiplying projects. Famous for her avant-garde albums and hypnotic stage performances, she has already appeared on the big screen. She appeared in Honey Boy (2019) by Alma Har’el and The Crow (2024) by Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman).
The choice of this role follows on from her performance in The Crow, alongside Bill Skarsgård. There she played Shelly Webster, the protagonist’s tragic girlfriend. Rupert Sanders’s film adaptation is faithful to the comic book and placed her at the heart of a dark adventure.
Keeping up with the same gloomy atmosphere, the artist will soon appear in The Carpenter’s Son, directed by Lotfy Nathan, the filmmaker behind Harka (2022). This horror tale, inspired by the Bible, retraces the exile of the Holy Family in Roman Egypt. Alongside Nicolas Cage in the role of Joseph, the first trailer for the feature film shows FKA twigs with a shaved head and dressed in a modest tunic. She embodies a Virgin Mary that contrasts with traditional liturgical depictions.
Will the actress embody Joséphine Baker?
True to her experimental universe, the British artist seems to find a natural extension of her artistic identity in these dark and fantastical atmospheres. Indeed, her music videos also cultivate a disturbing, mystical aesthetic, blending physical performance with visual strangeness.
Well-versed in the performing arts, she regularly incorporates demanding disciplines into her work, from pole dancing to martial arts. These physical feats make her an excellent choice to embody the legendary Joséphine Baker. FKA twigs will play the infamous singer and dancer in a biopic directed by French filmmaker Maïmouna Doucouré (Cuties, 2020), scheduled for release in 2026.

Finally, the American synthpop–dark wave duo Boy Harsher is stepping behind the camera with The Lonely Woman, a haunting erotic thriller starring actress Chloë Sevigny in the lead role. Performer FKA twigs, singer Bonnie “Prince” Billy, and Jake Weary (The Waterfront) will join the cast too.
Shot in the rough, ghostly New England, the film follows a woman haunted by the death of her first love, drawn into the mystery surrounding a local’s disappearance and a buried presence beneath the town. Boy Harsher will compose the soundtrack.
