Black Panther 3: What we know about the film with Denzel Washington
The Marvel production Black Panther 3 has now been confirmed by Ryan Coogler, reigniting speculation about the cast and the future of Wakanda. Rumours have it that Damson Idris may be involved, that Denzel Washington will play a yet undisclosed character, and that the multiverse will part of the storyline. The upcoming installment could become a cornerstone in the rebuilding of MCU.

Ryan Coogler takes the lead for Black Panther 3
Shortly after the promotional tour for his film Sinners (2025), American director Ryan Coogler confirmed that his next feature will be Black Panther 3. Actor Denzel Washington had already hinted back in 2024 that the filmmaker was “writing a role” for him in the sequel. A confidence that has been discreetly confirmed behind the scenes.

In the events of Chadwick Boseman’s passing in August 2020, Black Panther 3 must determine the future of its hero. The MCU is entering a new era, now shaped by Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027), two movies laying the groundwork for an almost total reset of the Marvel universe.
Thanks to the multiverse, screenwriters now have two credible options. First, reintroducing a young T’Challa from an alternate reality. Second, developing Prince T’Challa II, the child revealed in the final scene of Wakanda Forever. While Michael B. Jordan is unlikely to reprise his role as Killmonger, cameos or alternate versions of his character remain possible in a universe now governed by multiple realities. As for Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, and Angela Bassett, their return seems all but confirmed for this new chapter.
Despite the general excitement, patience will be required. Black Panther 3 won’t hit theatres before 2028. Marvel is considering this third installment as a potential symbolic reboot of the main character and the cornerstone of its new architecture. It could even mark the starting point of a restructured version of MCU with the upcoming release of X-Men.
Black Panther 3 by Ryan Coogler is scheduled for release in 2028.
