After Cannes, will Titane sweep everything at the Oscars?

Julia Ducournau’s shocking  genre filmTitane, the last Palme d’Or winner at Cannes, continues to make headlines by joining the coveted list of French films selected for the Oscars.

Who will stop Julia Ducournau’s fabulous rise? The French director won the Palme d’Or at the last Cannes Film Festival last July, for her ferocious and daring work that talks about men, machines, metal and cars,
Titanium
. She then made an almost historic bet by becoming the second filmmaker to receive this prestigious award, after Jane Campion. And it’s not over yet, because the filmmaker to whom we owe Raw (2016), a horror film just as bloody and disturbing as Titane, is on the way to conquering American audiences.

A specialized commission of the National Center for Cinema and the Moving Image (CNC) chose Titane on Tuesday, October 12 ,  in order to represent France at the next Oscars ceremony which will take place on March 27 , 2022. The genre film featuring revelation Agathe Rousselle and Vincent Lindon, which has registered more than 300,000  admissions in France, was in the running with BAC Nord by Cédric Jimenez and The Event by Audrey Diwan. The last time a French film won the “Best International Film” award at the Oscars was in 1993 and it was Indochine by Régis Wargnier with the great Catherine Deneuve.
