Chromakopia: a look back at Tyler, The Creator’s latest album and his Paris concert
While Tyler, The Creator performs two concerts in Paris, let’s take a look at his latest album, Chromakopia his eighth, released in October 2024. A project rich in diverse influences (such as Zambian rock), where the Los Angeles icon brings together bold guests: Childish Gambino, Daniel Caesar, Doechii, and even Lil Wayne.
Chromakopia, Tyler, The Creator’s latest album
In June 2021, rapper, producer, and creative director Tyler, The Creator shook up the highly competitive American rap scene by unveiling his highly inspired sixth studio album, Call Me If You Get Lost. On the album cover, Tyler adopted the alias Tyler Baudelaire (a nod to the French poet Charles Baudelaire) and invited several major names for features that still resonate in our playlists today.
From rapper Lil Wayne to Lil Uzi Vert, and the superstar Pharrell Williams, the multi-talented musician surrounded himself with some of the most sought-after artists of the moment, delivering an album infused with hip-hop, pop, jazz, and even reggae influences.
Along with earning widespread critical acclaim, the album, propelled by the single Lumberjack, became one of Tyler’s biggest successes when it won Best Rap Album at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards on April 3, 2022. In March 2023, Tyler, The Creator reemerged with a deluxe version of the album, adding eight new tracks, including a standout collaboration with A$AP Rocky (Wharf Talk) and another with Californian rapper Vince Staples (Stuntman).
Concerts in Paris
More recently, music lovers were able to discover Chromakopia, available in full since Monday, October 28, 2024. Choosing to release the album on a Monday instead of the traditional Friday, Tyler aimed to counteract the trend of disposable music consumption. To promote the release, the Chromakopia logo appeared on trucks across the United States, some of which were later vandalized.
In addition to the new album, Tyler, The Creator announced new tour dates in France, performing at the Accor Arena on April 27 and 28, 2025.
Actress Ayo Edebiri (The Bear) spotted in the Noid music video
As excitement mounted for the former Odd Future leader’s return, Tyler Okonma shared the video for Noid, the first single from Chromakopia (2024), just last week.
In the clip, Tyler, The Creator embodies a persecuted alter ego, overwhelmed by fame and forced to flee from hordes of fans. Across the fourteen tracks of this eighth opus, the thirty-something artist explores a new masked character, allowing him to tackle his growing paranoia, a message to those prying too much into his private life.
Astute viewers will also have noticed, alongside this Frankenstein-like alter ego, a cameo from a famous American actress: Ayo Edebiri, who won Best Actress at the 2024 Golden Globes for her role in The Bear opposite Jeremy Allen White, makes a brief appearance in the Noid video.
Childish Gambino, Daniel Caesar, and Doechii, guest Stars on Chromakopia
A few months after designing a capsule collection for Louis Vuitton alongside Pharrell Williams, the multifaceted artist, closely tied to the fashion world, hosted an exclusive listening session for Chromakopia in Los Angeles on October 27, 2024. During the event, he confided: “I’m not the guy I was at 20. Damn, people age, they have kids, families. Me? All I have is a new Ferrari… and a white hair on my chest. That’s life. I wanted to write about the stuff that crosses my mind when I’m alone.”
During this playback listening party, the rapper also known as Felicia the Goat, fans discovered in advance the stellar guest lineup featured on the album.
Although none of the collaborators have yet been officially credited on streaming platforms, Childish Gambino, Schoolboy Q, Daniel Caesar, Lil Wayne, Sexyy Red, GloRilla, and the charismatic rapper Doechii are all part of Chromakopia (2024) alongside Tyler, The Creator. A roster that already cements the album’s status as a future classic, though perhaps not his absolute best to date.
