The Five-Star Weekend, the new film adaptation of the author of The Perfect Couple
1.97 billion minutes streamed in just two weeks – that’s the staggering figure reached by the series The Perfect Couple, according to specialized media outlet Nielsen. Starring Nicole Kidman as a matriarch, this thriller based on the novel of the same name by writer Elin Hilderbrand was a hit on Netflix. And another literary work by the Pennsylvania-born writer will soon be coming to the small screen.
Chloë Sevigny will star in the series The Five-Star Weekend, alongside Jennifer Garner, Regina Hall (Crazy Rich Asians), and Gemma Chan (Crazy Rich Asians). The storyline? Hollis Shaw (Jennifer Garner) lives a dream life. As a lifestyle influencer, she delights in showing off to her ever-growing number of followers her mouthwatering recipes and flawless fashion sense. But when a loved one dies, the illusion begins to crumble. She is forced to confront the facade she has presented online, particularly her more tumultuous-than-it-seems relationship with her husband and daughter… To help her cope with her grief, she invites four friends she met at different stages of her life for a kind of seaside retreat. A spiritual journey from which none of them will emerge unscathed…
A new film adaptation of Bonjour Tristesse
In addition to filming The Five-Star Weekend, Chloë Sevigny will be involved in another adaptation of a luminous work. More than seventy years after its release, the novel Bonjour Tristesse (“Hello Sadness”) still deserves its place among the essential classics of French literature. Published in 1954, Françoise Sagan’s remarkable debut novel she wrote in secret when she was only 18 years old, is once again being adapted for the big screen. The first film adaptation, starring Jean Seberg, was released in 1958.
With this major project, Indian-Canadian author Durga Chew-Bose is making her directorial and screenwriting debut. The film, produced by Denis Westhoff—Françoise Sagan’s son and the executive producer—doesn’t yet have a release date in France (it’s set to premiere in the U.S. on May 2, 2025). However, a first still and trailer have been released, showing three characters in a convertible, bathed in Mediterranean sunshine.

Chloë Sevigny, Aliocha Schneider, Claes Bang… a star-studded cast
According to Variety, the film is expected to stay true to Sagan’s cult novel, which won the Prix des Critiques in 1954. The story follows Cécile, who spends the summer on the French Riviera with her father Raymond and his young companion Elsa, after failing her baccalauréat. Their idyllic days are disrupted when Anne, an old family friend, arrives. Her strict and moralistic lifestyle upends their carefree routine, prompting Cécile to hatch a plan to drive her away—one with tragic consequences.
To bring Françoise Sagan’s delicate and gripping story to life, Chew-Bose and Westhoff have assembled a five-star cast. Currently seen in Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, Chloë Sevigny will portray Anne, while Danish actor Claes Bang (The Northman) takes on the role of Raymond.
French actress Nailia Harzoune (Patients) will play Elsa, acting opposite American actress Lily McInerny (Palm Trees and Power Lines), who stars as young Cécile. Franco-Canadian actor and singer Aliocha Schneider rounds out the cast as Cécile’s boyfriend. All in all, a project that’s already creating anticipation.
After the Hunt: Chloë Sevigny’s thrilling new role
Following the screening of Bonjour Tristesse at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, another exciting Chloë Sevigny project could be headed for a major film awards circuit. She stars in After the Hunt, directed by prolific Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino—which may very well be in the running for the 2025 Venice Film Festival’s official competition.
After tackling horror in Suspiria and sports in Challengers, Guadagnino ventures into thriller territory with After the Hunt. Known for working with top-tier talent—he has previously directed Zendaya, Timothée Chalamet, and Tilda Swinton—he now casts the radiant Julia Roberts in the lead. Joining Roberts and Sevigny are British actor Andrew Garfield and breakout star Ayo Edebiri (The Bear).

A tumultuous trailer unveiled at CinemaCon
Following the lukewarm reception of his psychedelic odyssey Queer (2025), After the Hunt has emerged as one of this year’s most anticipated releases. The first trailer for the thriller was unveiled exclusively at CinemaCon on April 3, 2025, in Las Vegas. According to Variety, the story unfolds on a university campus, with Julia Roberts portraying a distinguished professor. The film tackles sensitive themes such as sexual assault and cancel culture in a post-MeToo era. It follows “a professor caught between personal and professional interests when a star student levels a serious accusation against one of her colleagues.”
While few details have emerged about Sevigny’s role, we do know she plays one of Roberts’ colleagues. It’s a highly promising project that marks the third collaboration between Chloë Sevigny and Luca Guadagnino, following the series We Are Who We Are (2020) and the film Bones and All (2022).
Both Bonjour Tristesse (2025) and After the Hunt (2025) have yet to announce official release dates.
