Shortly after the release of Challengers and Queer, Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming projects are beginning to emerge. In recent years, Luca Guadagnino has made a name for himself as a particularly prolific director, stringing together films with impressive casts. After working with Timothée Chalamet in Bones and All (2022) and Zendaya in Challengers (2024), he continues to raise the bar.
According to American media Deadline, the Italian director is now working on an adaptation of American Psycho, the cult novel written by Bret Easton Ellis in 1991 and first brought to the screen by director Mary Harron in 2000. That film, featuring a physically intense performance by Christian Bale at the peak of his art, sparked controversy for its extreme violence and its biting satire of the 1980s consumer culture.

Before his name was announced, Variety had mentioned several other actors in an October 2024 article. According to the media, the shortlist included Jacob Elordi, Charles Melton, Harris Dickinson, Aubrey Plaza, Lucien Laviscount, and Timothée Chalamet, who had already starred in two of Luca Guadagnino’s films (Call Me by Your Name, Bones and All).

In addition to this exciting project, Luca Guadagnino is reportedly working on several other feature films. Starting with After the Hunt scheduled for 2026 and for which the Italian director has brought together a trio of leading actresses. The film will star Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri (The Bear, 2022), and Chloë Sevigny.
According to the information reported by Deadline, the storyline of this thriller will revolve around a university professor (played by Julia Roberts), who have to deal with the fallout from an accusation made by one of her students against a colleague. Another part of the plot explores a dark secret from her own past that threatens to come to light.
An impressive cast with Ayo Edebiri and Chloë Sevigny
American actor Michael Stuhlbarg, who previously appeared in Call Me by Your Name (2017), is reuniting with Luca Guadagnino on the film After the Hunt. Also joining the cast is Andrew Garfield, last seen in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).

The film was adapted from the 1985 novel of the same name written by William Burroughs and starred the remarkable Daniel Craig in the lead role. Finally, Luca Guadagnino might also be preparing an adaptation of Separate Rooms (1989) by Pier Vittorio Tondelli, which will follow the life of an Italian writer, starring Léa Seydoux.
