Florence Teerlinck’s eclectic career in beauty, from Balenciaga to Marie Adam-Leenaerdt
Little favorite of Inge Grognard, the international renowed Belgian make-up artist who took her under her wing from the beginning of her career, make-up artist Florence Teerlinck stands out for her meticulous use of colour and her pronounced style combining audacity and softness.
Even at a very young age, she remembers being impressed and fascinated by the way her mother wore makeup, which certainly played a major role in her desire, unconscious at the time, to make beauty her daily life.
Close to major houses such as Balenciaga, with whom she produced an Eyewear campaign in March 2024, and Dries Van Noten for whom she helped to develop a vegan lipstick in a satin shade alongside Inge Grognard, Florence Teerlinck is not shying away from younger brands.
As well as taking part in the Meryll Rogge and Marie Adam-Leenaerdt‘s shows during Paris Fashion Week , the make-up artist also seeks to encourage other beauty enthusiasts and pass on her experience… In 2016, she therefore created an agency called The Mobile Make Up Bar, which helps professional make-up artists and supports them in their careers.
Interview with make-up artist Florence Teerlinck
Numéro : How would you describe yourself?
Florence Teerlinck: Enthusiastic, optimistic, a lover of all things beauty, always curious to try new things, yet at
the same time, a dreamer and a bit of a doubter.
How did your passion for make-up come about?
I’ve always been drawn to beauty, fashion, and anything visually captivating even if my journey started in a completely different direction. I studied marketing at university after dabbling in biomedical sciences for a year and after this period of my life, I found myself working for the American brand Khiel’s at L’Oréal where my passion for make-up really took root. It was a pivotal moment in my life, leaving behind a “stable” career to follow my dream. It was a leap of faith, but one I’d take again in a heartbeat.
Which meeting made the most impression on you?
Meeting Inge Grognard. About ten years ago, we worked together on a shoot, and since then, we’ve collaborated on countless major projects. She’s been a mentor and an inspiration to me ever since, shaping so much of my creative journey.
What was your best experience?
Keying my first show at Paris Fashion Week with Meryll Rogge in 2022. It was a lifelong dream to be part of the fashion show world, and leading my own team in that environment was nothing short of surreal.
What would be your dream job?
Launch my own lipstick brand!
What inspires you?
I find inspiration in everyday life, the beauty in small, simple things like a stunning forest walk, the sea, an incredible exhibition, or even a beautifully designed space in a restaurant. That said, other artists also often inspire me because seeing their work pushes me to go beyond my limits. For me, inspiration is where it begins, but it’s up to you to craft your own story and carve your unique path.
A beauty routine based on skincare
In the evening, after a double cleanse of the face, I apply a toner, a rosehip oil from Maiwe and then a rich cream (depending on my mood). And twice a week, I use an overnight mask (I love Suzanne Kaufmann’s moisturizing mask) and a Paula’s Choice BHA peel for cell renewal.
For my make-up, I always start with a sunscreen, Supergoop’s being my favorite, then I use a light concealer or a tinted base like Glossier Stretch Concealer or Erborian CC Cream, mascara of course and finally, most days, I finish with a touch of lipstick.
From Maiwe to Caudalie, her favorite products
Dries Van Noten lipstick because the colours and textures are perfection, Maiwe rosehip oil which is my go-to for saving and nourishing my skin day and night, and the Caudalie Eau de Beauté which is a model favorite (and mine too!). I think I’ve always been fascinated by products and the stories behind them that is why I’m always excited to try everything I get…
