How Virgil Abloh is shaking up the design scene

Trained architect, fashion designer, DJ… Virgil Abloh has also distinguished himself in recent years as a creator of design furniture pieces. Within a reputedly elitist milieu, the American advocates openness to the general public and popular culture. Relying on a subversive and ironic vocabulary derived from streetwear culture, he adapts vernacular furniture to contemporary aesthetics and tastes. Invited to exhibit his pieces at the Kreo gallery in Paris, Numéro art photographed him surrounded by his creations, and asked Michael Darling, curator of the Chicago museum and a great specialist of the designer, to shed light on this iconoclastic work.
