La Gaîté Lyrique dissects post-Internet cultures
As an art center dedicated to the culture of the digital age, this winter the Gaîté Lyrique is offering a series of conferences dedicated to post-Internet cultures. Artists and researchers from Le Fresnoy, the Tourcoing-based school and center for research and contemporary art, will discuss changes in artistic practices linked to new technologies.
La Gaîté Lyrique is increasingly establishing itself as a major cultural center in the Parisian landscape. This season, between November and June, the establishment is offering a free cycle of 5 conferences entirely dedicated to post-Internet cultures, called Portfolio. Artists and researchers from Le Fresnoy-Studio national des arts contemporains, a cultural institution based in Tourcoing, will discuss the mutations of artistic practices linked to new technologies. At the crossroads of the arts and sciences, these monthly meetings will take stock of the renewal of art linked to technological progress. Bringing together young artists who have just graduated and those who are working in the field, these encounters will provide a panorama of young creative activity around these issues.
Alongside the workshops, exhibitions and concerts offered by Gaîté Lyrique, this cycle interweaves speculative research and futuristic experimentation. Between cross-conversations and encounters-performances, this cycle tackles a wide range of issues, such as “the representation of the imperceptible”. It will feature the optical prostheses created by artist Lucien Bitaux. The ever-expanding boundary between the living and the non-living will also be explored, notably in the half-organic, half-robotic sculptures by visual artist Jonathan Pêpe. D. student at Le Fresnoy and artist, Cindy Coutant investigates the emotional economy linked to new technologies. For the occasion, artists such as Julien Prévieux or Pascal Convert and researchers such as cosmologist Jean-Philippe Uzan, director of research at the CNRS, will also be at rendez-vous.

4. March 23, 2022, Untie tongues with science.
5. June 1, 2022, Practices and thoughts of metamorphosis.

Between conversation-crossings and encounters-performances, this cycle tackles a series of very diverse questions, such as the representation of the imperceptible thanks to the optical prostheses created by artist Lucien Bitaux, or the limits between living and non-living within the half-organic, half-robotic sculptures of visual artist Jonathan Pêpe.
