The Ferragamo show in 3 alluring details

For the Ferragamo Spring/Summer 2026 collection, Maximilian Davis draws his inspiration from the 1920s, a symbolic decade for the house founded in 1927.

Maximilian Davis digs up the 1920s aesthetics

Each season, Maximilian Davis, artistic director of Ferragamo since 2022, unveils a collection with very specific, carefully curated references. While his Fall/Winter 2025 show was a dive into the world of Pina Bausch, his Spring/Summer 2026 runway show takes us back several decades earlier.

More precisely to the 1920s, a pivotal period in time for the Italian fashion house. Salvatore Ferragamo, its founder, created it during that era of cultural effervescence. Throwback to this new collection through three alluring emblematic details of the Roaring Twenties.

Straight dresses at the Ferragamo show

During the 1920s, the world of fashion and art were transforming. Women’s wardrobes in particular were liberated from corsets, petticoats and other restrictive garments, in favour of more enticing, festive looks. When we think of the Roaring Twenties, we picture women in straight dresses adorned with fringe, ruffles, embroidery and accessorized with a headband worn low on the forehead. These looks reflected both the Art Deco aesthetics and the spirit of post–First World War freedom in Western society.

Thus, the Spring/Summer 2026 collection revives all the hallmarks of that era, including straight dresses, hips enhanced by belts or fabric contrasts, sculptural silhouettes, and bold accessories – like oversized bracelets or colourful fringed handbags. But one image in particular inspired Maximilian Davis for this Ferragamo show… A photograph of actress Lola Todd, unearthed from the house’s archives, in which she posed in a leopard-print dress, characteristic of a decade fascinated by exotic motifs and fabrics. This detail resurfaces throughout the collection, notably on silk satin dresses where animal prints seem to blend seamlessly into the garment…

Ferragamo’s “cage” pumps are back

When Salvatore Ferragamo founded his fashion house in 1927, he began by designing shoes for the greatest stars at the time, both on film sets and in their daily lives. Footwear has always been a cornerstone of the brand. Maximilian Davis now brings it back into the spotlight, while preserving the accessory’s strong Art Deco aesthetic. On the grey-carpeted runway, the house reintroduced its iconic “Cage” pumps. The retro design with interlaced leather straps and pointed toe was first launched by the brand in the 1920s.

Here, the design has been revamped as a mule with a S-shaped heel, a subtle nod to the founder’s initials. Other mules also appeared on the models’ feet, such as pearl-embroidered, satin versions, paired with slip dresses for a total vintage look.

Fringes are everywhere this season

Another emblematic detail of the 1920s are fringes. Worn by flappers, these young women who danced the Charleston made fringes a signature element of that decade. Maximilian Davis obviously embraced it wholeheartedly and incorporated fringes into most of the looks of this Spring/Summer 2026 collection.

Fringes adorned the bust of a dress or a sleeve hem. They covered a minaudière or embellished a belt worn on the hips. At times, they even made up half of a skirt or a dress. In short, they were an integral part of this alluring collection, which revamped the Roaring Twenties through a modern, finely crafted wardrobe, true to Ferragamo’s style.
