Who is Greta Lee, new Dior ambassador and star of Tron: Ares?

More times than not, American actress Greta Lee was given minor roles only. She made her debuts in series like The Morning Show or Russian Doll. But it all changes now for the new face of Calvin Klein, 42, who is starring in Past Lives and Tron: Ares.

  • By Camille Bois-Martin.

  • Greta Lee, from Broadway sets to minor roles in TV shows

By fate or coincidence, Greta Lee’s life seems to resonate with the character she embodies in Past Lives. In Celine Song‘s film, released in December 2023, she portrayed Nora Moon. She later shared in an interview that it changed everything for her, when she felt the fierce desire to prove herself. Today, she is the star of the movie Tron: Ares.

Born in 1983 in an Korean immigrant upbringing, she was raised in Los Angeles. She developed a passion for Broadway and writing growing up. Half-way through the 2000s, she started pursuing an acting career in New York. There, she would often perform on Broadway, before conquering the Hollywood scene.

The American actress often appeared in successful shows, slipping under the skin of a galerist in Girls in 2013, then as a party-girl nail artist in Sisters in 2015, or as a young confident woman falling for the wrong guy in New Girl (2014).

From Russian Doll to The Morning Show

Released in 2019 on Netflix, the Russian Doll show offers another minor role to Greta Lee, where she delivers a huge comedic potential nonetheless. Electric blue eye-liner, sheer shirts and necklaces layered on her neck… The American actress portrays a new quirky and easy to love character.

A role that completely differed from her previous portrayals, yet which perfectly fitted her. That project introduced the actress to a mainstream audience thanks to the success of two first seasons.

More recently, she appeared on the cast of The Morning Show, alongside Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, thus making her more of a noticeable figure in the industry. She portrays a young manager working at a TV channel, where corruption and schemes unravel. The actress shines among a strong cast – Billy Crudup, Steve Carell, Karen Pittman – in the last two seasons, available on Apple TV+.

Keeping that in mind, Greta Lee will soon be back for the fourth season of the show, confirmed on September 17th, 2025. In addition to Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, the actress will co-star with French icon Marion Cottillard…

    Past Lives, Greta Lee’s breakthrough

After so many minor roles that demonstarted her ability to put herself in a character’s mind, but do not exploit her full potential, she is now feeling limited to caricatural scripts, according to her.

As a woman who used to dream to become the next “Korean Natalie Portman” (as she admits to GQ), she quickly changed her mind, dealing with the harsh reality of trying to make it in this industry…Though, the meeting Celine Song gave the actress the opportunity to prove herself. Alongside the South Korean actor Teo Yoo, Greta Lee leads the audience through a portrayal of an emotionally-intense journey.

With Past Lives, Greta Lee signs up her first lead role, embodying a fully-fleshed out character for the first time. She depicts Nora Moon, a young South Korean immigrant woman living in New York and who finds, for the brief window of time of a week-end, her first love after twenty years of separation.

Her measured yet intense acting resonates deeply with the audience, speaking upon emotions everyone is feeling behind closed doors. This take on young love allowed Greta Lee to finally break off from the “secondary role” mold and to be nominated in the Best Actress category by 2024 Golden Globes.

An actress endorsed by fashion and cinema

As a rising star, the actress catches the attention of the fashion world. Calvin Klein chose her to be the new face of its campaign, while Jonathan Anderson made the actress one of his muses. The latter used to be creative director of Loewe, before being appointed head of menswear and womenswear collections at Dior. That proximity elevated the actress to the rank of ambassador of the French fashion house.

Although Greta Lee had been one of the muses of Loewe and wore the house’s latest creations for each of her public appearances, the actress now seems to have followed the Irish designer in his new venture at Dior. Indeed, at the 2025 Venice Film Festival, where she was promoting the drama Late Fame and the political thriller A House of Dynamite, Greta Lee lit up the red carpet wearing looks designed by the latter.

On September 2nd, 2025, she promoted her new exhilarating project, Late Fame. Directed by Kent Jones and written by Samy Burch – screenwriter of May December (2024), the movie showcases the actress in a lead role, alongside actor Willem Dafoe.

New thrilling projects, which are followed by a second feature presented at the Venice Film Festival. A House of Dynamite is political thriller directed by Kathryn Bigelow and produced by Netflix. But also by her performance as a badass CEO in Tron: Ares, currently out in theatres since October 8th, 2025. Greta Lee’s rise is just beginning…

Tron: Ares by Joachim Rønning, coming out in theatres on October 8th, 2025. A House Of Dynamite by Kathryn Bigelow, coming out on Netflix on October 24th, 2025.
