  • The White Lotus, a razor-sharp satirical hit

Since its debut in 2021, The White Lotus has established itself as a sharp social satire, dissecting the privileges and hypocrisies of vacationing elites. Each season, written and directed by Mike White, explores a new idyllic location and a cast of characters as fascinating as they are detestable. And Season 4 is already in the works.

The first season, set in Hawaii and featuring an unforgettable performance by Jennifer Coolidge, captivated audiences with its dark humor and social tension. It scored a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from the outset and went on to win multiple Emmy Awards.

Season two, in Sicily, deepened the themes of desire and power, while the third season, set in Thailand and aired in February 2025 on HBO, was praised for its visual richness and stellar performances. The cast included Walton Goggins, Aimee Lou Wood, Carrie Coon, Charlotte Le Bon, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and K-pop superstar Lisa from Blackpink.

New horizons for the season 4 filmed in France

HBO has confirmed a fourth season for The White Lotus. One might have think that Mike White would move away from tropical beaches to explore new settings. The possible destinations, according to fans? Japan, Mexico, Australia, or South Africa.

In the end, the media Deadline reported on August 5th, 2025, that the story would unfold in France. Until now, HBO had a partnership with Four Seasons, which could have meant filming in the group’s properties like the George V in Paris, the Megève hotel, or the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat. But according to Variety, HBO has ended that partnership and the new episodes could therefore take place partly at the Ritz or the Lutetia in Paris. However, most of the action is expected to unfold on the French Riviera, notably in Nice or Monaco.

One notable change? The departure of composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer, whose distinctive score defined the tone of the early seasons. This transition could shape the sonic atmosphere of the series. As for the cast, Greg (Jon Gries) and Belinda (Natasha Rothwell) are also expected to return. And there’s hope that Charlotte Le Bon will be back too. Filming for season 4 will begin in 2027 at the earliest.

The White Lotus, season 3, is available now on Max.
