Florence + the Machine revient avec un clip mystique et féministe

Un an après avoir interprété la chanson originale du film Disney Cruella avec Emma Stone, Florence + the Machine est de retour en grande pompe. Dans la foulée du mouvement #MeToo, elle a décidé de s’attaquer aux questions de genre et au patriarcat dans son nouveau morceau. King, qui devrait être le premier extrait d’un cinquième album de Florence + the Machine à venir, est d’après l’artiste « une réflexion sur la féminité, la famille, le féminisme et la subversion des attentes. » La chanteuse anglaise proche de la maison Gucci y clame : « I am no mother, I am no bride, I am king » (« Je ne suis pas mère, je ne suis pas épouse, je suis Roi « ).

La Britannique aussi connue sous le nom de Florence Welch explique dans un communiqué à propos de ce nouveau morceau : « En tant qu’artiste, je n’avais jamais vraiment pensé à mon genre. (…) J’étais aussi douée que les hommes et je me suis toujours confrontée à eux comme d’égal à égal. Mais aujourd’hui, en pensant au fait que je suis une femme trentenaire (…), j’ai soudainement ressenti ce déchirement entre mon identité et mes désirs. » Plus féministe que jamais, elle ajoute : « Étre une interprète, mais aussi vouloir fonder une famille n’est peut-être pas aussi simple pour moi que pour mes homologues masculins. Je m’étais forgée presque exclusivement à partir d’artistes masculins, et pour la première fois, j’ai senti un mur s’effondrer entre moi et mes idoles car je dois prendre des décisions qu’ils n’ont pas eu à prendre. »

Le titre s’accompagne d’un visuel en forme de carte de tarot, posté sur le compte Instagram de l’artiste et d’un clip mystique filmé par Autumn de Wilde, photographe et réalisatrice qui a travaillé avec les White Sripes, Fiona Apple et Beck. Florence + the Machine apparaît telle une pythie vêtue d’une cape violette lévitant dans les airs et tordant le cou à un homme. On la voit célébrer ce sacrifice en entamant une danse étrange avec une poignée de disciples féminines. Cela signifie-t-il que la chanteuse est prête pour revenir hanter la pop de sa présence magnétique ?
